After Laughter by Paramore – album review

Paramore is an American rock band from Franklin, Tennessee, formed in 2004. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York and drummer Zac Farro. While not a band member, Justin Meldal-Johnsen plays bass guitar on their most recent album.

The group released its debut album All We Know Is Falling in 2005, with the album reaching number eight on the UK Rock Chart and number thirty on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart. While it only had a minimal commercial performance initially, the album and its lead single “Pressure” were eventually certified Gold by the RIAA after the success of the band’s later material. This album was pretty solid release if you ask me. Lot of really good songs like “All We Know”, “Pressure”, “Emergency”. If I had to choose my least favorite song from this album then it would be “My Heart”, but still solid track.

2 years later they released their breakthrough album which made them household name “Riot. Lead single “Misery Business” peaked at #26 on Billboard hot 100. The album is said to explore a “diverse range of styles,” while not straying far from the “signature sound” of their debut album. Honestly, on this album we see Paramore improving a lot. Both singing-wise and instrumental-wise. Hayley’s vocals are much more into your face and guitar parts are much more refined and better structured

In 2009, Paramore released their best album in my opinion, Brand New Eyes. This album is Paramore at its peak. Some of the best Paramore songs like “Ignorance”, “Careful”, “All I Wanted”, “Brick by Boring Brick” are on this album. This is not only my favorite Paramore album, this is one of my favorite albums of all time. Hayley’s vocal performance on this album is amazing, best of her career in my opinion. Guitar work of Josh Farro and Taylor York is even better than on Riot.

After Brand New Eyes Paramore went to other direction. With their self titled album which was released in 2013 they were looking to explore more poppier side of their sound. Two original members left the band before the recordings of this album. Brothers Josh and Zac Farro. Josh’s guitar parts were one of two reasons why I like Brand New Eyes so much and I guess him not being on this album was main reason why I liked it less than Brand New Eyes but still it is pretty solid album.

In 2017 Paramore came back with new album called After Laughter. So, how is it?

The Source by Ayreon – album review

Ayreon is a musical project by Dutch songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist musician and record producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon’s music is described as progressive rock, progressive metal and power metal sometimes combined with genres such as folk, electronica, experimental and classical music. The majority of Ayreon’s albums are dubbed “rock operas” (or “metal operas”) because the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, usually with each one being represented by a unique vocalist.

Number of musicians Arjen worked with is very large. That list includes some of the biggest names in the metal and rock universe such as Bruce Dickinson, Marco Hietala, James LaBrie. Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson, Ken Hensley, Russel Allen and many more. On this new album “The Source” Arjen introduced some new names to already very big pool of singers he worked with such as Micheal Mills (Circus Maximus), Nils K. Rue (Pagan’s Mind), Tommy Rogers(Between the Buried And Me) and Zaher Zorgati (Myrath). Here is a full list of every single vocalist featured on the album:  James LaBrie (Dream Theater), Simone Simons (Epica), Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Tobias Sammet (Edguy, Avantasia), Tommy Karevik (Kamelot, Seventh Wonder), and Russell Allen (Symphony X), Micheal Mills (Circus Maximus), Nils K. Rue (Pagan’s Mind), Tommy Rogers(Between the Buried And Me) and Zaher Zorgati (Myrath).  for a total of eleven main vocalists.

Album is divided in four chronicles. The Frame, The Aligning of the Ten, The Transmigration and The Rebirth. At the end of every chronicle something big happens, but that is something I will discuss later.

AyreonTheSourcetracklisting

Ayreon was always one of my favorite bands(if you can call it a band since it is a more of a project). “The Human Equation”, “Into The Electric Castle” and “01011001” are some of my favorite albums of all time with “The Human Equation” being favorite out of those 3 so it is clear that I have high expectations from Ayreon

2017 marks the year when Ayreon releases another album. This time it’s called “The Source”. So, did “The Source” meet my expectations?

The Strange Case Of… by Halestorm – Fifth year anniversary review

Halestorm is an American hard rock band from Red Lion, Pennsylvania, consisting of lead vocalist and guitarist Lzzy Hale, her brother drummer and percussionist Arejay Hale, guitarist Joe Hottinger, and bassist Josh Smith.

Halestorm2009albumcover

In 2009, Halestorm released their debut self tilted album where they showed a lot of potential which will be improved on later albums. Album features really good guitar work and extremely good vocals done by vocal powerhouse Elizabeth Lzzy Hale. Songs like “I’m Not An Angel”  showed that Halestorm is capable of writing really good power ballads and not lose what made them good. Overall this is really good debut album full of good and really good songs.

3 years later, after one good covers EP and one really good live album Halestorm released their sophomore album called The Strange Case Of… Was Halestorm another band that was victim of sophomore slump?

Iron Maiden is English Heavy metal band which was formed on Christmas day of 1975. They are one of the most popular metal bands at this moment alongside Black Sabbath and Metallica.  In the first 5 years band went through numerous member changes but one face always stayed and that is bassist, leader and main songwriter Steve Harris. In 1980 they released their debut album “Iron Maiden” which is seen as landmark point of NWOBHM (New Wawe of British Heavy Metal) movement.

Dark Passion Play by Nightwish – album review

Dark Passion Play is the sixth studio album by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, released on 26 September 2007 in Finland, 28 September in Europe and 2 October 2007 in the United States.  It is the first of only two albums with vocalist Anette Olzon, who was eventually dismissed in 2012 after the release of the band’s subsequent album, “Imaginaerum”. Tuomas Holopainen has referred to it as the “album that saved his life”. Album had four singles, Eva, Amaranth, Bye Bye Beautiful i The Islander. I will not talk about them in this segment, I will save it for later.

Before we get into the review we need to go back to 2005. During “Once Upon A Tour” world tour Tarja Turunen, at the time main Nightwish vocalist was fired. Firing your vocalist can only bring bad things to the band because maybe a lot of fans will not like your new singer and because of that they will stop supporting your music. So what did Nightwish do?
